Description
North America, Southwestern United States, probably New Mexico, ca. second half of the 19th century CE. A fine fire-starting kit known as a chuckmuck with a folded iron front flap adorned with several brass studs surrounding a radiating sun as well as a steel striker hanging from the bottom. The interior cavity is thin enough to fit a striking flint and other smaller tools if desired, and the top loop is strung with a red-dyed leather strand. Size: 3.8" L x 2" W (9.7 cm x 5.1 cm)

Condition
Minor nicks and abrasions to leather and some studs, with desiccation to leather commensurate with age, otherwise intact and very good. Nice patina throughout. Front flap opens easily after buckle is unlatched.
