Montpellier, also spelled Montpelier, is a small unincorporated community in Stanislaus County, California, United States, and is about 7 miles south of Waterford. It was established in 1891 on the railroad tracks. The present map is a blueprint copy of the original 1890 survey. It has the statement, in the print at the lower left corner, "Copy of official map on file in Vol. 1 of Maps, Page 35, County Recorders Office, Stanislaus County, California. E.H. Annear, County Surveyor." Edgar Annear was active in the early part of the 20th century. He designed the Old Basso Bridge on Highway 132 over the Tuolumne River, which opened in 1911. No copies of the original map or this blueprint copy are listed in OCLC/WorldCat. This is the only known map of Montpellier.
