A fine Chinese Export black lacquer sewing box with bone accessories, 19th century. 8-sided black lacquer box decorated with gilt enamels. The lid decorated with a tea house scene, the border having a motif of mandarin figures. The box decorated on all sides with genre scenes of mandarin life. Fitted interior with lidded compartments. Long sliding lower drawer with a lidded compartment. The box is supported on four carved wood bat formed feet. Two bronze side handles. Measures 14" wide, 10" deep, 6.25" high. The box houses a myriad of carved bone accessories including a thimble, pin cushion, thread spools, needles, needle cases, etc.
