A Wedgwood commemorative yellow jasperware dish. The dish is centered with the image of a black man in chains depicted as a slave. Words surrounding the image on the border read "Am I Not A Man And A Brother?" Marked on the underside WEDGWOOD, Made in England. Measures 4.5" diameter, 5/8" high.CONDITION NOTE: small chip to rim (just above the M in Man). See photos.HISTORY NOTE: Anti-slavery medallion; this medallion, first made in 1787, became a popular icon in the British movement for the abolition of the slave trade in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
