Description
A Biblical silver shekel of Tyre from the time of Christ, the famous type referenced in the Bible as the ‘30 Pieces of SilverÂ’ of Judas. Struck at Northern Israel Mint, possibly Jerusalem. Dated Year 130 (4/5 AD). Laureate head of Melqart right, lion skin around neck / Eagle standing left on prow; palm frond in background; to left. TYΡOY IEΡAΣ KAI AΣYΛOY. Club and date PΛ to left, KP and monogram to right. Cleaned and polished. 24 mm, 13.08g. cf. BMC 197, RPC 4652 for type. An extremely rare lifetime of Christ example! Comes with a nice wood display box. Ex Santa Cruz, CA private collection.
