For your consideration is a beautiful 19th Century melon-form porcelain pitcher by Alfred Stellmacher. This figural pitcher is masterfully composed and the coloration is both distinct and breath-taking! The pitcher is marked on its underside with the Alfred Stellmacher mark used between 1859 and 1894. The underside also carries an stylized "AS" impressed mark and the model numbers "691/1". The decoration number is also seen ("27") written in purple script.
The Alfred Stellmacher porcelain factory was established in 1875 and continued until the late 1890s. Alfred Stellmacher's designs mark a period of transition from a neo-baroque style into the radically new and different style of Art Nouveau. Stellmacher's creations were masterful, unique and complex. Eventually Stellmacher's son and stepsons went on to found the Reissler, Stellmacher & Kessel porcelain factory in circa 1892. This firm was responsible for the start of the use of the name Amphora consistently from about 1898 onward and quickly became a master of the Art Nouveau style.
