Antique Brass Folding Toast Rack; Antique Brass Folding

Item Details

Description

Very unusual brass folding toast rack. Probably English, circa 18th Century.
This is the only folding toast rack we have seen; we're not sure how it would have been used, but it is certainly attractive. The three pieces are held by brass screw that end in rosehead rivets on the underside, and function perfectly. The brass pieces that form the rack also are flattened into rivets on the underside. The hanging hole is obviously hand cut, and a bit off center. There is punch dot engraving on the edges of the entire piece, and each of the three pieces has an engraved with three prongs within a circle.
Excellent condition. Folded, it measures about 9 1/4" long by 4 1/2" tall. Opened, it measures 16 1/2" long.
