Orotones or Goldtones are considered some of the most beautiful prints made in the 20th century. The emulsion is on the back of the glass and with the brilliant gold gives these prints a 3-dimensional quality. Decorative.
Arthur C. Pillsbury 1870-1946 had a studio in Yosemite from 1907-1927 competing against Ansel Adams father-in-law, Harry Best, at the Best Studio, and George Fiske. Pillsbury made beautiful orotones, glass positives of Yosemite. Only Edward Curtis' Goldtones of Indians are better known in the format
