Description
Delicate, intricate, colorful, accurately painted Japanese Satsuma vase with a design of geese on a lake. A lightweight ceramic urn shaped vase that has been painted in over glaze enamels on a finely crackled base off white glaze. The paintings are colorful with a fall theme of autumn leaves and migrating geese. There is a shallow cut foot that is unglazed. The base is glazed. There is a mark on the bottom with the letters CPO in a diamond. This was the mark for the Central Purchasing Office and indicates the vase was sold at a U.S. military base in Occupied Japan shortly after World War II ended. The mark was used from about 1946 until 1948 MEASUREMENTS 7 ½” (19.0 cm) tall x 3 ½” (8.9 cm) diameter. Weighs 15.7 oz (445 g) CONDITION There are no cracks, chips or breaks. There is wear to the gilding at the mouth. There is a slight glaze loss in the shape of a crescent by the pagoda. The glazes are still fresh and bright. A very finely painted Japanese vase to add to a collection or add a touch of elegance and finesse to your décor.
