Description
A superior example of the type, the walnut stock elaborately inlaid with figured staghorn plaques in baroque forms beginning at the hexagonal butt and reaching to the triggerplate, and further enriched over the entire forestock with brass and horn rosettes and studs inlaid in geometrical patterns, the forearm cap of dark horn. The miquelet lock mechanism embellished with silver in geometrical designs. The heirloom rifled octagonal barrel forged of fine pattern-welded damascus steel, with arched rear sight and swamped muzzle, the top flat paneled and chiseled in relief, the breech and muzzle heavily inlaid in silver vine motifs, the maker's name, now worn, struck on an inlaid gold panel. Barrel retained by four engraved silver bands. With its ramrod with faceted silver cap. Beginning of the 18th century. Wear to silver inlay, few rosettes lacking. Overall length 119.7 cm.
