Description: Antique two volume set of the Memoirs of the Duchesse de Gontaut, translated from the French by Mrs. J. W. Davis. Published by Dodd, Mead and Company, 1894. Having lived through the Revolution, Madame de Gontaut eventually became the governess to the children of France during the time of the Restoration. She wrote these memoirs at the grand age of 80! Her recollections are clear, interesting and the books are as enjoyable to peruse as any historical novel. Very little wear given great age; nice tan boards with crimson and gilt accents, original tissue guards. Two volume set. Material: paper. Measurement: approximate 9" (INCHES).
