Description
This is the original 10 Volumes of what Sir Richard F Burton referred as the "Plain And Literal Translation Of The Arabian Nights Entertainments." The book is not dated, but it is said this edition was printed in the later 1800's. Privately printed by Burton's Club. Books are in good condition for their age with deckled edged pages. While the pages inside are in very good condition with only very minor discoloration with most of it being the first page in the books. The hardcovers also have very minor shelf-wearing. Books are approx 6 1/2" x 9 1/2". The Book of the Thousand Nights and a Night (1885), subtitled A Plain and Literal Translation of the Arabian Nights Entertainments, is an English language translation of One Thousand and One Nights (the Arabian Nights) – a collection of Middle Eastern and South Asian stories and folk tales compiled in Arabic during the Islamic Golden Age (8th−13th centuries) – by the British explorer and Arabist Richard Francis Burton (1821–1890). It stood as the only complete translation of the Macnaghten or Calcutta II edition (Egyptian recension) of the "Arabian Nights" until the Malcolm C. and Ursula Lyons translation in 2008.
