Description
This is a very large and impressive carved wooden mask with tall painted arching horns and brass embellishments. The mask represents "Daje" or a wild antelope which has been painted and adorned with green, yellow pink blue and red, as well as a hand hammered decorated brass sheeting. The mask has an overall well used surface suggesting years of traditional ceremonial use. Bamana peoples, Mali, Africa. The mask measures 44 inches tall x 7 inches wide , 53 inches on its custom display stand. Provenance: The Dr Brian Healy estate, New York.
