This is an overall sharply defined near Gem that also displays a beautiful caramel brown patina and a smooth, satiny texture. Only two die marriages were used to produce circulation strike 1855 cents of the Slanting 5s Guide Book variety. Newcomb-9 is the readily identifiable Knob on Ear variety while N-10, offered here, is attributable by strong obverse spurs from the front of Liberty's coronet and (in most die states) the denticle below the first digit 5 in the date.
