HOOVER, HERBERT. Archive of four lovely Presidential doodles from the Forbes Collection.

1. Large abstract graphite drawing, 7.5” x 3.5” on an 8.5” x 11” sheet.

2. Abstract linear graphite drawing, 5” x 4” on 6.5” x 5.5” heavyweight cardstock, on verso, “Scratch made by President Hoover while talking on the phone from my desk in the Ushers room at The White House, to Senator Allan of Kansas at the Capitol, April 11th, 1930 at 1:30 P.M.”

3. Several graphite doodles on a partial sheet of typed meeting agenda notes, 4” x 12”.

4. Large graphite doodle with the words “EXTR EXTRA” in large block letters on an 8” x 10.5” sheet.

Malcolm Forbes (1919-1990), American owner-publisher of Forbes magazine, and consummate collector, amassed one of the most substantial and broad collections of such breadth and depth that it filled a half-dozen residences, and sat on three continents. Many of his manuscripts were sold in multi-million dollar sales by Christie's in the early 2000s. The Forbes name is considered to be the apex of provenance when attached to an item like the one above.
