Item Details
Description
Unusual survivor, an early production chocolate pot designed by W.H. Breuer with decoration consisting of pressed grape vines in a band around the pot and on the top of the lid. Most likely listed in the shape record book as 119 coming in “four styles; Kingfisher, Decorated, Panels, and Basket” we assume this to be a “Panel” with the grape patterning. Marks include Rookwood in block letters, the date 1882, an impressed anchor mark and surprisingly, the incised initials of Mr. Breuer. Height 8 5/8 inches. Uncrazed and in excellent original condition. Very few signed pieces by Breuer have ever come to market and although this is a production piece, it is an important swath of the Rookwood fabric.
