Item Details
Description
Elaborate Limoges style vase with three dimensional grapes, leaves and stems done in 1885 by Northern Kentucky (Covington) artist Edith M. Linn. Done on typical Ohio yellow clay, the applied leaves and grapes are done in fired on gold and the stems and vines in bright silver. Signed in slip Edith M. Linn 1885 on the bottom. Height 10 1/4 inches. Chips to several leaves and stems. Born in 1856 Linn was one of 8 founding members of the Young Ladies” Art Union in 1877 which became the Covington Art Club in 1887. She was an accomplished artist in many media including painting, sculpture, water color, engraving and ceramics. We know there was much cross pollination between Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky in the late 19th Century but have found no connection with Linn and Cincinnati.
