Description
This lot consists of an unframed pastel illustration on paper, done in the shimmering, Impressionistic style of Claude Monet (French, 1840-1926). "Claude Monet" is handwritten at lower left. Awash in tones of jewel and earth, this elegant image depicts the face of a young boy. Colors mingle and merge to create a vibrant likeness. Done in the vibrant style for which Claude Monet is so very well beloved. A gorgeous highlight to any collection. Overall framed dimensions measure approximately 8.5" x 6".
Reverse side of piece features a circular stamp which is largely illegible but includes the word "Paris" at bottom of stamp.
Claude Monet (1840-1926) was a French painter, founding member of the Impressionist art movement, and a master of capturing light and movement within the medium of painting. Monet was not only influenced by Japanese design sensibilities, but he held a deep-rooted artistic philosophy about expressing one's perceptions of nature as clearly and directly as possible. His work perfectly exemplifies this doctrine, with a lightness and a charm that can only be associated with the artist himself.
