Description
This lot consists of an unframed fine art print on paper, done in the abstract expressionist style of Roberto Matta (Chilean, 1911-2002). A handwritten, graphite inscription at bottom bears the artist's signature. Image depicts two abstracted figures in a colorful moment of passion. This unframed piece measures approximately 23" x 27.5". Image sight measures approximately 12.75" x 16.75".
Roberto Matta (Chilean, 1911-2002) is perhaps one of the best-known painters to hail from Chile. Matta was a surrealist and abstract expressionist painter of Spanish, Basque, and French descent. He was greatly influenced by the work of Marcel Duchamp and Pablo Picasso, counting among his contemporaries Rene Magritte, Salvador Dali, Le Corbusier, and more. Matta had very strong connections with the surrealist movement and still remains a seminal figure in South American culture.
