Description
Rare early character doll created by Lord Roberts Industries in the likeness of Field Marshal John French,Commander-in-Chief of the British Expeditionary Force at the outset of World War 1.
Dimension: height: 17 1/2 in.
Painted bisque head, hands and shoes with a wadding-stuffed fabric body recreating the Service Dress uniform, including minute brass buttons, felt collar tabs and viscose leg wrappings and ribbon bars.
Manufactured by the Lord Roberts Workshop in 1915 including other notable British military figures.
Condition: Overall good condition, some paint loss to the bisque componets, with some soiling and wear to the body, missing original cap.
Provenance: Bedford, New York Estate.
These British military figure dolls were constructed entirely by soldiers and sailors wounded in World War 1 at the Lord Roberts Workshop.
