T., 3/4 x 3 x 2 in. - Provenance: Manuel Ortiz de Zevallos y Garc¡a (Peru, 1809-1882); By descent in family - Note:ÿThis item descended in the family of Manuel Ortiz de Zevallos y Garc¡a, a Peruvian lawyer, diplomat, and politician. Manuel Ortiz de Zevallos was married to Josefa de Tagle and Echevarr¡a, the daughter of Jos‚ Bernardo de Tagle y Portocarrero, the IV Marquis of Torre Tagle and President of Peru from 1823-1824.The Tagle family is one of Spain's prominent aristocratic families, going as far back as the 14th century. The Palace of Torre Tagle (commissioned in 1715 by the 1st Marquis de Torre Tagle, Don Jos‚ Bernardo de Tagle-Bracho y P‚rez de la Riva) is now home to the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.A series of heraldic works relating to the Ortiz de Zevallos family was sold at Christie's in December 2018.
