Description

**Originally Listed At $600**

Oceania, Papua New Guinea, Abelam tribe from the Maprik/Wosera area, ca. 1930s CE. Carved from the thigh bone of a huge cassowary bird, this is a spoon with a figural handle and the tip of the shaft excavated to form a scooping surface. A standing human figure and a pair of serpents decorate it, all incised, while the upper joint of the bone has been carved and colored to resemble a headdress. Size: 1.6" W x 13.6" H (4.1 cm x 34.5 cm); 15.2" H (38.6 cm) on included custom stand.
