**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, Central Mexico, Tula Valley, Toltec culture, ca. 10th to 15th century CE. A hand-built and highly burnished pottery plate of a shallow form resting atop a trio of elongated, tab-shaped feet. Displayed within the basin is an abstract severed zoomorphic head that resembles a deer with a circular eye surrounded by red stippling and a set of projecting antlers. Size: 8.25" W x 2.9" H (21 cm x 7.4 cm)
Provenance: ex-private collection of the late Father Bader, University of St. Thomas, Houston, Texas, USA, acquired prior to 2000

Condition
Repaired from several large pieces, with small losses around rim as shown, and small chips with light adhesive residue along break lines. Abrasions and nicks to dish and legs, with light encrustations. Nice remains of original pigment throughout. Old museum number written in black ink beneath one leg.
