Japan, ca. 1980 CE. An example of gohei - the cut and folded white paper ornament signifies purification in the Shinto tradition. These are seen on all Shinto shrines. Mizuhiki (decorative paper cords) in the shape of a turtle, pine,and crane, are auspicious for longevity. These are used for engagement gift packaging. Size: 12.25" L x 2.5" W (31.1 cm x 6.4 cm)
