In Old Sante Fe
Signed and dated 1948 bottom right, inscribed with the artist's name and title on cardboard backing verso, watercolor on paper.
sight: 15 1/2 x 19 1/2 in. (39.4 x 49.5cm)
and;
Still Life with Eggplant
Signed and dated 1944 bottom center, watercolor on paper.
sight: 9 1/2 x 14 in. (24.1 x 35.6cm)
PROVENANCE:
The Estate of the Artist, Springfield, Pennsylvania.
note:
"In Old Sante Fe would have been painted during, or at the very least inspired by, John's exploratory trip in late '47- early '48 to Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico, looking for a place for us to live. He was actually quite captivated by the southwest, but instead we ended up moving east."- Diane Winters, the artist's daughter
