Large Chinese 18/19 Century Thai Bencharong Royal Porcelain Urn decorated in China as a Chinese Royal gift to the Thai Royal Family; decorated in famille rose enamels with "1000 Buddhas in Flaming Mandorlas" on a black ground, the base unglazed. Height 19 inches (48.5 cm.) X approximate diameter 14 inches (35.5 cm.). PROVENANCE: According to the Griswold Family, this was formerly owned by Rama VIII, King of Thailand (1925-1946) and entered into the collection of Alexander Brown Griswold (Baltimore1907-1991) Thai Art Collector & Professor, after the King's death; enclosed with a "Provenance" tag and Griswold Obituary by Hiram W Woodward Jr of the Walters Art Gallery, Baltimore, Maryland; to the Estate of a respected 20th/21st Century New Jersey Chinese Art Collector.
Condition
Several large cracks re-stuck with light overpainting; 2 small chips and 1 larger chip lost to mouth edge.
