Description
1826 1st ed Napoleon Surrender at Waterloo Maitland Narrative Napoleonic Wars
In the Summer of 1815, the reign of Napoleon Bonaparte was finally brought to an end at the Battle of Waterloo by armies from the United Kingdom, Germany, Netherlands, others. This defeat has been noted as the end of the Napoleonic Wars and Napoleon was sent to Saint Helena to live out the rest of his life.
The details of this story had been published in numerous books following the battle, including that of Frederick Maitland. Curiously, Maitland’s account wasn’t published for eleven years following the exile. Maitland goes into detail about his decision to wait, a decision that makes for a very compelling work.
