gouache, mixed media, mat window 38 x 25,5 cm, signed bottom right G. Mally, framed, mount, glass Gustav Mally is a 19th/20th Century Slovak painter and curator, born in 1879 in Vienna, the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
He studied at the Academy of Arts, Architecture & design in Prague, and then, from 1898, at the Academy in dresden. Later, he traveled to Germany and Belgium. Experiences from his travels had a profound impact on his artistic work. In 1911, he opened a private painting school in Bratislava. He is considered a pioneer of Slovak modern painting.
