Description

George III sterling silver presentation cup, 1818. The text along the rim reads: "To Mr. Jonathan Marsden, A trifling reward for his science and exertions at Bronbiban in Merionethshire in cutting a level three hundred & thirty Yards long and a shaft thirty Yards deep whereby the Plumbago was obtained 1818." Marked along the footrim with the sterling lion passant mark; crowned leopard London mark; 1818 date mark; duty mark; and a partially illegible maker's mark. Dimensions: Height: 7 in x width: 3 3/4 in x depth: 3 3/4 in.
