Charles Darwin ALS from 1849 on Mourning Stationery Likely in Respect of his Father Who Died the Previous Year
Charles Darwin autograph letter signed, July 27, [1849] on black bordered mourning stationery, one page, 4.25 x 7". Some toning, folds, light wear, and two closed tears, one at center and one at lower left margin. Overall very good condition.
Charles Darwin autograph letter signed on mourning stationery, likely in respect of his father who died the previous year. From his home in Down Farnborough Kent, Darwin writes to the family's financial advisor, Thomas Salt, "My dear Sir / I received the enclosed yesterday from my Brother, with the request that I should return them to you. / Believe me / Dear Sir / Yours sincerely / C. Darwin". At this time, Salt was working on the estate of Darwin's deceased father, and the documents from Darwin's brother were likely related to that.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
