Description

This is Edith Shain. She claimed to be the nurse walking through Times Square when she was grabbed by a Navy sailor and kissed in celebration of victory over Japan in 1945. . Several men have come forward claiming to be the sailor in the photo but he has never been officially identified. The majority believe it to be George Mendonsa, still not if full agreement by so called experts. The photographer who immortalized these two in history was Alfred Eisenstaedt. This lot is for two photos, a single shot of Shain and the famous Times Square photo, both signed by Edith.
