James Cool Papa" Bell (1903-1991) Center Fielder. Bell maintained his reputation as the fastest man in baseball. He was undoubtedly the fastest base runner in the Negro Leagues. Coupled with his hitting prowess (hitting over .400 in several seasons) and fielding talents his speed propelled him to one of the longest active careers in the Negro Leagues. 5" x 2 " autograph note signed, on lined paper, "My greatest thrill was when the Major Leagues open the doors to black ball players.
