Description
This is a collection of (4 ct.) unissued revenue stamps type RN-B1 printed in a form letter on financial documents from Providence, Rhode Island. Presented in the 1860s. Please see photos for details. Revenue stamps first issued in the United States were used during colonial times, notably the Stamp Act of 1765. The first revenue stamps printed by the United States government were issued to finance the American Civil War. Revenue stamps were finally discontinued in 1967.
