This lot consists of a graphite illustration on paper, rendered in the modern style of Fauvist painter Henri Matisse (French, 1869-1954). "Henri Matisse 35" is inscribed at lower right corner. Image depicts a nude, reclining female figure. A striking piece that has been executed in the modernist style for which Matisse was so well known. Unframed dimensions approximately 11.25" x 16.5".

Henri Matisse (French, 1869 - 1954) was an artist known for both his fluid use of colour and his original draughtsmanship. He was an illustrator, printmaker, and sculptor, but is known primarily as a painter. Matisse is commonly regarded, along with Pablo Picasso, as one of the artists who best helped to define the revolutionary developments in the visual arts throughout the opening decades of the twentieth century.
