Typed letter signed "Tom". 9 pages, on rectos of 9 leaves, single spaced. 26.6x20.3 cm (10½x8").

Well-written, richly detailed account of the soldier's journey by land and sea to the far reaches of the Pacific, where he was tasked with maintaining peace among the still-resentful natives of the Philippines following their aborted insurrection against U.S. occupation. There is a small ink sketch of the barracks at Camp McGrath, "All of the quarters occupied by the Troop are built on the same order; something in the form of a letter 'H' the main building is one long room partitioned off at each end for a library and orderly room..." Tom gives vivid details of the areas visited along the way, including New Mexico, Arizona, California and Hawaii, with particular emphasis on the last two - he passed through Oakland, San Francisco and Honolulu. He also gives many particulars of the ship on which he traveled.
