Terance James Bond is one of the UK’s most accomplished, sought after and successful bird artists. His instantly recognisable works are renowned not only for the realism of the birds, painted life size, but also for their detailed and intricate backgrounds, which are faithfully painted, as seen, without any form of contemporary presentation or embellishment.
Terance James Bond, was born at Bures St Mary, Suffolk in September 1946, son of James Bond and his wife Beryl née Reader, who married at Bures in 1944. Educated at Bures Primary School and Stoke-by-Nayland Secondary School, after which he took various positions including in a drawing office in Ipswich. He married at St Augustine’s church Ipswich in May 1970, Gillian Wright. A self-taught artist but early on he had an interest in wildlife which developed into an ability to paint from nature. His first solo show was at the Haste Gallery, Great Colman Street, in Ipswich in 1971 when his 25 pictures were all sold and he was included in their 40th anniversary exhibition in 1998. In 1981 he was invited to submit work for an exhibition staged by the RSPB in London. The showcase led to his paintings being used on fine art business calendars, a relationship with Bemrose of Derby lasting almost 30 years. His work has also featured on bone china plates produced by Wedgwood and is sold widely in Britain, Europe and America. He lives at Little Paddock, Wickerstreet Green, Kersey, Suffolk.
