Description
Book Title: The French Line Quadruple-Screw Trubo-Electric Liner NORMANDIE – No. 5 in a series of reprints from “The Shipbuilder & Marine Engine-Builder”
Author(s): Introduction by Leslie Reade, Patrick Stevens
Publication: New York Graphic Society Ltd., Greenwich, Connecticut – 1972
Description: Hardcover with dust jacket and plastic protective cover. Pages are clean and crisp, no tears, rips, or watermarks. This is one of the British "Shipbuilder" magazine reprints that are famed and sought after by serious liner collectors. Number 5 in the series of 6 (preceded by OLYMPIC-TITANIC (Vol. 1), LUSITANIA & MAURETANIA (Vol.2), AQUITANIA (Vol.3), EMPRESS OF BRITAIN (Vol. 4), and followed by QUEEN MARY (Vol. 6), these are treasured keepsake volumes. a BIG book, this appears to be the 1972 edition from Patrick Stephens (as my dust jacket matches the illustration EXACTLY). Like all the "Shipbuilder" reprints, this is chock full of illustrations, line drawings & photographs, detailing the NORMANDIE's conception, her builders, owners, construction, machinery, facilities & luxuries, and entering of service, with an epilogue by Leslie Reade that summarizes her subsequent adventures, from her 1935 maiden voyage, through her wartime New York tragedy, to the hauling off of the final piece of her double bottom to be melted down in 1947. Also included are pages of contemporary ads from NORMANDIE's suppliers, from the 'Frigidaire' refrigeration equipment, to the Les Moteurs "Lutitia" propelling installations of the lifeboats, to the Kent's Clear view Revolving Glass Disks of the Bridge windows, all proudly proclaiming their placement of their products aboard the superlative "NORMANDIE". A 5-star book all around, as would be expected from the "Shipbuilder" series.
Condition: Very good, like new. Pages are clean and crisp, no rips, tears or watermarks. Pls. magnify photos for over-all condition.
