Description

An original hand colored steel plate engraving after French artist Timoleon Marie Lobrichon (1831-1914) titled "A Tempest in a Teapot", 1888. Engraved by A & E Varin. Published by Selmar Hess, NY 1888. This work has been matted with matting from Holland and shrink wrapped. Matted size: 13.25" x 14.75". Image size: 6.25" x 7.75". Mint condition.
Timoleon Marie Lobrichon [1831-1914], French listed painter of genre scenes and portraits. He was born in Cornod (Jura) on April 26th 1831. He was a pupil of Francois-Edouard Picot at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, winning medals in 1868 & 1882 and was awarded the Legion of Honour in 1883.
Eminent painters of the nineteenth century focused their gaze tenderly upon children and created images full of charm. Lobrichon was skilful in his rendering of children at their pastimes and revealed not only their images but their characters in a very real way. He developed the genre to a high degree of detail and finish, leaving the viewer to marvel at his interpretation.
