Description
A handsome early 20th century Art Nouveau silverplate standish or inkstand. The stand hold a single cut crystal inkwell with hinged lid. A standish (or stand for holding pens, pencils, and writing implements) was popular in England and Europe from the 17th to the early 20th centuries. It usually consisted of a platform stand with a well, and held one or two inkwells. In England they were called a standish and were usually made of silver with crystal inkwells. Size: 4" Height by 9" Length by 8" Depth
Condition
The standish is in good condition with a monogrammed dedication dated 1919. The stand contains a couple of dings and the inkwell has some chips to the lower front corner. The hinge on the top is somewhat loose.
