Description
Josef Sudek (Czech, 1896-1976) Silver-silver photograph, size 9" x 6,5" (23 x 17 cm), mounted, stamped "Photo Sudek, Prague III, รjezd โโ20" at the back.A prominent Czech photographer who began to photograph at an early age and later entered the history of Czech and world photography of the 20th century. Sudek's work developed from pictorialism to a perception characteristic of modernism and close to it. At this stage, his work responded to functionalism and created a distinctive type of photographic advertising, which he made mostly for L. Sutnar and Cooperative Work. The focus of his work is a lyrical intimate still life captured by a large negative format with a contact imprint. Lyrism is characterized by its pictures of nature, as well as the monumental panoramic Prague. His work with light is almost symbolist. J. Sudek has been awarded many important photographic awards and his work still enjoys a constant collecting interest. The auction offered by the auction from the turn of the 1920s and 1930s depicts the urban landscape of Prague. Specifically, Sudek offers us a view from Paลรญลพskรก Street on ฤechลฏv Bridge and behind the river towering Letenskรก Plain. The scene is lined with a hidden building of the Faculty of Law of Charles University on the left and the eye of a bright spectator will notice an empty plot of land where today's residents are accustomed to building a hotel built in the 1970s, roughly forty years later This photo was taken. The film thus automatically becomes a testimony of its time and at the same time appealing evidence of the transformation of the Prague panorama.
