Crandall’s wood toy Pigs in Clover. Was the rage of the country when it first came out. Stories tell that our government representatives were playing this game instead of doing government business. Not many left as they are very fragile. This one is whole and complete. Charles Martin Crandall was born in 1833, started invented toys at the tender age of 12, and took over the Crandall Toy Company at age 16 when his father passed away. The company under the guidance and ingenuity of Charles became famous for its toy block, acrobats and numerous other well-known games made of wood. Cleverly named pigs in clover the games required a skillful manipulation of the marbles, the pigs, to be rotated around a series on concentric circles in order to corral the pigs in the center, the pen.
