Item Details
Description
**Originally Listed At $250**

Latin America, Mexico, ca. 19th century CE. A fine set of three hand-built iron spurs, two of which are a pair and the third is a standalone example. The singular spur has a curved band capped with a diamond-shaped strap slot, a thin flower-shaped spacer disc, and a 22-pronged rowel held in place with a small iron pin. The pair of spurs have leather attachment straps and a discoid button, curved bands incised with horses standing in a field, and 8-pronged rowels held within multi-lobed housings. Mexican vaqueros (and occasional vaqueras) are the quintessential cowboy, and their techniques for managing cattle across the wide open landscapes of Mexico and what is today the American West were the inspiration for the iconic figure of America's Wild West. Size of largest (single spur): 9" L x 3.1" W (22.9 cm x 7.9 cm).

Provenance: private Los Angeles County, California, USA collection, acquired by descent from the owner's father, collection amassed between 1950-1990
