Description
A printed fabric cover, made of silk, for Shabbat and holidays. The General Orphans Home in Jerusalem. On its center, is a group picture of the orphan girls, alongside a Menorah and the prayers for Shabbat and holidays. At the four corners are pictures from the orphans' daily life, described in English and Yiddish: At work, at their meal, and at prayer in the Western Wall and at the Tomb of Rachel. At the margins are the addresses of the institute in Palestine and in New York. Circa early 20th century.
The General Orphans Home in Jerusalem was founded in 1902 by Rabbi David Weingarten, and took care of orphan girls from the Jewish community of the city.
Dimensions: approximately 30X50 cm. Good condition, stains, wear.
