Margie Barker (Texas, born 1936)
Margie Barker was born in 1936 in Texas. She earned her B.A. in art at Sam Houston State University, Texas. Margie's work is inspired by her love of the land. Margie Barker's list of awards include Best of Show at the San Antonio River Art Show. In May, 2017, she was honored in Kerrville, Texas as Museum of Western Art's Artist of the Month. Margie's work has been exhibited at the San Antonio Art League Museum in Texas. Margie Barker is listed in Artists of Texas, Vol II.
Margie Barker is inspired by her love of the land. She has painted the magnificent scenes of New Mexico, Colorado, and the Grand Canyon's Majesty... But it is the Flora and Fauna of Texas that her brush irresistably returns.
Her love of her native Texas shines through in her paintings. Margie recreates the natural habitat of her subjects. Her paintings are mostly realistic and many scenes includes streams with people or wildlife, old buildings, wild flowers, livestock and the Hill Country. She takes great pride in making the close-up cactus look like it could stick you.
