Description
Victorian brass student lamp made by Manhattan Brass Co. (New York) in the mid to late 1870s. There are several patent dates on the burner as well as the name of the company. The lamp has NOT been electrified.his is a tall slender lamp, standing about 22 1/2" inches tall to the top of the round finial. The lamp is adjustable on the center post. It can be raised or lowered to preferred height and locked in place with the large round screw. The oil tank is removable. It has a float mechanism in the bottom where the oil was put in..Green Glass Shade 8"x6" and Hurricane shade 10 1/2". Weight on all 7 pds 6 oz. PROVENANCE: The Estate of Dr. Fraser Wilson, Charleston SC. Dr. Wilson will be remembered for his love of antiques and his dedication to Charleston's history and material culture. He was a Life Trustee of Historic Charleston Foundation and opened his home for house tours for 39 years. Dr. Wilson was appointed to the South Carolina Governor's Mansion Commission by Governors James B. Edwards, Richard W. Riley, Carol Campbell, David M. Beasley, James Hodges, and Mark Sanford. He was awarded the Order of the Palmetto by the Governors for his exemplary service on the Commission He was a member of the Charleston Club, the South Carolina Society, the St. Andrew's Society, the St. Cecilia Society, the Agricultural Society and the Carolina Yacht Club. He was a member of St. Michael's church.
