5 Old Sumatran Ceremonial "Tirai" Wall Hangings, hand embroidered, wrapped metal thread, some applique, some bangles, one with umbrellas. From different regions in Sumatra (Bengkulu, Lampung, Panjang). Cloth hangings such as these were used on festive occasions such as weddings to decorate walls and doorways by the Malays of Sumatra. Ranging in size from: 15'' x 35'' (38 x 89 cm) to 14'' x 69'' (36 x 175 cm). Provenance: Apsara Arts of Asia.
