Description
Africa, South Africa, Zulu tribe, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden war club known as a knobkerrie (also knopkierie) with a drilled suspension or thread hole through the pommel end of the slender handle. The tapered shoulder gradually widens and is surmounted by a spherical, 'knob'-shaped beater head. The entire club features wonderful patina in rich caramel and red-brown hues. Size: 24" L x 3.4" W (61 cm x 8.6 cm)

Minor abrasions and nicks to handle and head, with a few fissures on lower handle, and light adhesive residue from earlier repairs to lower handle. Light earthen deposits and great patina throughout.
