Description
MAGNUSHEVSKY, P.D. Allied Success in Africa and Italy. Iskusstvo, Leningrad, 1943, 35 x 26". "Mighty strike of Allies topples Rommel and il Duce; von Arnim follows the lead and sheepishly gives up". Leningrad Tass Windows series poster by P.D. Magnushevsky, verses by L. Shetinin.
In 1922, Magnushevky, still a student, took part in Stage Designs Exhibition in Petrograd, along with such artists as Altman, Annensky, Benua, Petrov-Vodkin, and Tatlin. He stayed in Lenngrad through the Siege, and in 1943 was appointed to the team of Leningrad artists and architects ordered to design new monuments to great Russian military leaders of the past - Alexander Nevsky, Peter the Great, Suvorov and Kutuzov. The project, apparently, had never come to fruition. Magnushevsky also worked as a book illustrator.
