Description
F-1 “Garde in der Garde – Hofdienstadjustierung der K.u.K. Ersten Arcierenleibgarde” (Guards Court – Duty Imperial and Royal First Arcieren Guard) officer tunic. Custom quality red “doeskin” fabric with ten elaborate designed 2 3/8” x 5 3/4” scalloped borders gold “tape” panels on each side of front. Each panel has an affixed replaced acorn/gold fringe decoration – all showing age and wear. Ten correct gilt domed buttons with a relief Hapsburg eagle within a recessed area. Three matching gold “tape” panels above each cuff with three gold eagle buttons. Two rows of 1” “waffle” pattern flat gold “tape” on black velvet collar (shows wear on reverse). Two scalloped edged gold “tape” borders on “skirt” with six correct type Hapsburg eagle buttons. White silk, partially padded lining. Overall, there is some wear on high points of arm panels, on gilt lower border of tunic and back and side of gold “tape” on collar. Black velvet cuffs are missing. With the rare correct dress shoulder boards – age darkened flat linear gold surface with a relief gold bullion crown over a red/white silk shield within a gold sequin laurel wreath. Large gold wire “crescent” outline and gold bullion wire fringe (shows age). Maker “FRANZ THILL…WIEN” on reverse shoulder hooks. While restoration is needed, this tunic remains one of the rarest of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. About II
