Impressionist portrait of a girl. Oil on canvas 20 x 16 in., 27 x 23 in. (framed). As a child growing up in Chicago Mark Daily showed an early appitude for art. He attended the Art Institute of Chicago's Junior School summer programs when he was 13 and 14 and a local drawing competition won him a scholarship to the American Academy of Art in Chicago.Mark Daily left the academy after two and a half years and rented a studio with a buddy in Chicago. He served in the Army Reserves during Vietnam and after his service he rented a studio in Taos, New Mexico. He stayed in New Mexico for twelve years painting and selling enough to get by but not truly applying himself to his art. He credits his friendships with the artists that would be known as the "Denver School" for encouragement and support during this period.Mark Daily went on to become an instructor at the Art Students' League of Denver and he has led workshops at Taos' Fechin Institute, La Jolla's Atheneum School of Arts, Chicago's Palette & Chisel Academy and at both the Disney and Dreamworks studios.Daily has developed his own style and techinues over the course of his career. He credits his time at Disney and Dreamworks studios in the early 1990s for teaching him the value of development and preparation. He spends hours each day on his own research and development.
